Mohammedan Sporting lift Sambalpur Cup

Kolkata giants Mohammedan Sporting won the 5th All-India Sambalpur Cup Invitational Football Tournament, outplaying Army XI, Delhi 4-1 in the final at VSS Stadium here today. After conceding a goal in the first half-an-hour, the Kolkata side fought back with a vengeance, scoring three goals in the second half to lift the glittering trophy and a cash prize of Rs 2 lakhs. Runners-up Army XI were given Rs 1 lakh.

Striker Christopher Chizober starred in the Mohammedan Sporting triumph, scoring a brace. Other two goals for the winning side were scored by Sudip Das and Suman Chandra Dey. Despite the defeat, Army XI had the satisfaction of taking lead against the mighty Mohammedan Sporting.

All India Football Federation (AIFF) Director Tathagat Mukherji, HINDALCO (Hirakud Complex) president V Srinivasan, Sambalpur MLA Jayanaryan Mishra and Sambalpur Collector H K Dash graced closing function as guests and handed over the trophy and cash prizes.
